Dr Helen Barefoot is the Deputy Director of the Learning and Teaching Innovation Centre (LTIC) where she leads continuing professional development (CPD) for academic staff. Her research is centred on inclusive teaching and student success. With a specific interest in reducing the attainment gap between White and Black and minority Ethnic (BME) students, Helen works to improve policies, processes and teaching practices.

Cage Boons is an undergraduate Philosophy student in the School of Humanities. As a student member of the BME Student Success Working Group since 2016, he suggested the idea for the BME student advocate programme. Cage is also an ambassador for the University of Hertfordshire and works on University and external outreach projects to raise aspirations for students from under-represented backgrounds regarding entering higher education.
